Additional comments:
HORD works with in the disadvantaged community where the majority of the population lives in extreme poverty, where prospects of growth and community development are positive. The poverty situation in the community is also alarming. Among the poverty stricken children have to survive on HORD’s assistance. There are an estimated 5000 children and some with Child Headed House holds living in absolute poverty in kamuli, they live in abject poverty and deplorable conditions. Poverty has created other problems such as illiteracy, malnutrition, prostitution, child abuse, disease and crime. Poverty alleviation is one of the priority areas of HORD’s Program of Action. This is compatible with the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Seven out of the eight MDGs are directly related to poverty alleviation. Recognizing the poverty situation in Uganda, appropriate actions are necessary; otherwise their economic situations may continue to be bleak for many years to come.
