Mission:
Four times a year, HHC volunteers embark on a two-week medical trek into a remote area of Nepal that’s accessible only by foot. Once there, physicians spend six days working alongside Nepali health care professionals in the region’s only health care facility—a clinic without electricity or plumbing that patients commonly walk for days to reach.

Specialities of volunteers needed:
The organization needs physicians in ENT, family practice, internal medicine, infectious diseases, ob-gyn, pediatrics, cardiology, and nephrology, among other specialties. Volunteers must be able to make very strenuous treks.

Religious affiliations:
no

Additional comments:
HH leads teams of health-care workers on treks to remote villages in Nepal. Volunteers need to be in good physical condition. The teams trek for as much as eight hours a day and cross passes in excess of 14,000 ft. Trek itself costs about $1600. Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world. There is only one doctor per 33,000 Nepalese, and virtually all of those doctors live in urban areas. Ninety percent of the population lives in the mountain villages, many of which are completely inaccessible by road or air. This is the population that HH volunteers serve. In addition, we do not accept any medical school volunteers. We have medical missions four times a year, twice in the spring and twice in the fall. 3 weeks typical stay
